The 15th edition of All India Rugby Championship 2018 was inaugurated in a colorful ceremony at the Nihang Shamsher Singh Stadium in GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. The famous environmentalist and a social reformer, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal was the Chief Guest of the day and was extended a warm welcome by S. Manjit Singh Gill, President College Governing Council. Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, has been spearheading the anti-river pollution campaign along the Kali Bein rivulet. On this occasion, after the honorary march past by the 30 visiting teams from all-over India, an oath was taken by International Rugby player Charanjit Kaur on behalf of the players. Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, presented before the enthusiastic crowd the plethora of academic, cultural and sports achievements of the college. Notably, Sandeep Chaudhary, the college student and para-athlete who recently smashed the world record in Javelin, was given a standing ovation and felicitated by the Chief Guest. The college girls' football team was, also, appreciated for bringing the trophy home for a record 20th year in a row. Chief Guest Sant Seechewal, in his inaugural address focused on the importance of clean air and water in the sustenance of life and encouraged youth to contribute towards greener and brighter future. Arjuna Awardee Dhanveer Singh congratulated the organizers and requested the players to play with the spirit of sportsmanship. The inaugural match of this league and knock-out tournament was flagged off by Mr. Sandeep Singh, Operational Director of Indian Rugby Football Association. The match was played between Punjab and Chandigarh Warriors in which Punjab won by 1 try (3 points). In the second match, the Bihar team was washed out by the Tiger Hurricanes with a score of 0-37. The third match was won by the Ace Foundation over the Haryana Warriors with a score of 15-5 points. Madurai Veerans beat Haryana Bulls by 26-10 in the fourth match. The occasion was also graced by Mr. Deepak Kumar, Secretary General, Rugby Association, Chandigarh; Dr. H.S. Brar, College Registrar, Dr. Satvinder Kaur, Principal College of Pharmacy, Dr. Sarabjit Kaur, Principal College of Education, Principal Ram Singh Kular (Retd.) and Dr. Balwinder Pal Singh. The inaugural function concluded with a cultural splendor by the Gidda and Bhangra teams of the GHG Khalsa Colleges, leaving the audience spellbound.
