An awareness campaign was conducted by volunteers of NSS units (Boys and Girls) of Guru Hargobind Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar Ludhiana to prevent the deadly effects of stubble burning. Under this campaign, the volunteers visited about ten villages of the area and interacted with about six hundred farmers, alerting them of the deadly effects of stubble burning and persuade them not to burn stubble in the future. Appreciating this awareness campaign, College Principal Dr. Harpreet Singh said that along with providing education, it is also our responsibility to make people aware about social problems. Environmentalists are predicting an increase in respiratory problems in the future due to stubble burning. In such a situation, this campaign conducted by the NSS units is highly commendable. He further adds that these units operating in the college are continuously conducting such programs. A few days ago, an oath-taking ceremony was held by these units to follow the path of non-violence shown by Mahatma Gandhi and stay away from drugs. On this occasion Prof. Pawanveer Singh, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Prof. Vishavpreet Kaur and Prof. Kanwaljit Kaur were also present.
