Reputed Educational Institutions of GHG Khalsa Colleges, Gurusar Sadhar (Degree College, College of Education and Pharmacy College) have successfully implemented the online Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver the study content to the students. This system will be accessible to every student enrolled in the college. The students can read, watch and listen to the content online whenever they want. The content related to the subject has been made available on this system in audio-visual and written forms by the college professors. It will also access the students' attendance, tests, assignments, etc. The College Governing Council President, S. Manjit Singh Gill and Secretary Dr. S.S. Thind congratulated the computer department and the entire staff of the college for making the educational materials available on this system in a very short span of time. He said that by developing and implementing such system, all the staff of the three colleges have shown their high level of academics. An awareness drive on COVID-19 for the supporting staff was organized by the COVID-19 Committee of G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. The lecture was aimed at educating the participants about the nature of the disease and the ways to prevent the infection. Prof Shikha Jain talked at length about the precautionary measures to be taken in order to stay protected from the disease, the various do's and dont's when it comes to maintaining personal hygiene especially hand hygiene and the ways to practice social distancing. She also shared the methods to prepare natural sanitizers at home with neem, basil and aloe vera leaves. They were also advised to avoid spreading wrong pieces of information and rumours about the pandemic. Prof Anjana Kunari on the occasion spoke on the importance of keeping personal hygiene for the safety of oneself and the family. She shared that the health and hygiene of the individual and the family are interlinked. Prof Gurpreet Kaur and Prof Tejinderpal Singh distributed the masks and sanitizers among the supporting staff and advised them to use these items as safety devices.
As India was all set to celebrate the 74th Independence Day, the national flag raising ceremony took place on 15th August in the college campus. The flag was hoisted by Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh Goraya. The unfurling of the flag was given a salute by the NCC cadets. There after Principal Prof. J.S. Goraya congratulated everybody present on the occasion .The non-teaching staff Mr. Balvir Singh Bedi, Mr. Manish Kapila, Mr. Varinder Kumar, Mr. Sunil Verma, Ms. Parveen Kapila, the teaching staff, Dr. Rajinder Singh, Prof. S.K. It was done under the guidance and motivation of chief patrons S. Manjit Singh Gill and Dr. S.S. Thind. The inaugural session commenced with a welcome message by Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh Goraya. The guest speaker Dr. Balwinderpal Singh, Editor, "Sada Virsa Sada Gaurav" threw light on the life, hymns and philosophy of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadar Ji. He emphasized that Shri Guru Tegh Bahadar Ji is a beacon for the whole world and we should all make efforts to adopt the teachings of guru sahib in our lives. On the second day of the webinar, session was started with the welcome note by Dr. Pargat Singh Garcha, Principal, GHG Khalsa College of Education Gurusar Sadhar. Dr. Jagjit Singh performed the Gurbani kirtan which was followed by quiz competition. Manjit Singh Gill and Dr. S.S. Thind. The webinar was aimed to raise awareness about potential Stressors triggered during the Pandemic and also provide tools and strategies to the people to cope with anxiety, motivational issues, depression and other potential stressors, which ultimately protect the health of the people under the current pandemic of covid-19. The inaugural session was started with the welcome note by Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh Goraya. The keynote address was delivered by Lt. Gen. Jagbir Singh Cheema, Vice Chancellor, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, Punjab Sports University, Patiala. The Chief Guest, Prof. Nagesh Thakur UGC member and Dean, H.P. University, Shimla also sent his good wishes for the success of this webinar. GHG Khalsa Colleges, Gurusar Sadhar, organized a one week online national faculty development programme (FDP) on the theme 'Integrating Technology in Classroom Teaching and Learning' under the motivation and guidance of Chief Patron S. Manjit Singh Gill and convenor Dr. S.S. Thind. The FDP aimed to provide the knowledge and skills needed by the teachers to cater to the present day teachers and their learning styles. In this FDP, nationwide renowned resource persons, principals and faculty members participated and shared their knowledge on ICT tools and techniques. The FDP was inaugurated by Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh, Degree College, Principal Dr. Pargat Singh, Education College, and Principal Dr. Satwinder Kaur, Pharmacy College. The key address was delivered by Dr. Pargat Singh while the theme of the FDP was elaborated by Dr. Mandeep Kaur Kochar, Vice Principal, Bombay Teachers Training College, Mumbai. The resource persons gave hands-on training on latest tools like Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Forms, Google Certificates, Canva, Active Presenter, Podcasts, Kahoot, Mind Maps, Zoom, Moodle, Testmoz and Google Classroom. The rowers of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, won six medals in different event categories at the recently concluded Panjab University Intercollege Rowing Championship held at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh. Gurbani Kaur, bagged two gold and two silver medals, respectively, in 500m & 2000m single scull (light and heavy weight) categories. In the men's category, Gulshan of B.P.Ed. grabbed two golds in 200m single scull heavy and light weight events while also securing a bronze in 500m single scull event. The medal winning rowers of the college, Gurbani and Gulshan, also got selected as representatives of Panjab University, Chandigarh, rowing squad for All India Inter-University Rowing Championship to be held at Sukhna lake, Chandigarh, by the end of the month. The college rowers and their team incharge Dr. Baljinder Singh were congratulated by Dr. Parminder Singh Ahluwalia, Director of Physical Education & Sports, P.U. Chandigarh.
The Department of Mathematics at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, held a lecture on 'Interactions with PI'. Dr. Surinderpal Singh Kainth was the resource person from Panjab University, Chandigarh. He talked about the history, present status and future scope of work on the concept of pi. He, also, discussed about the applications of pi in different fields beyond the field of mathematics. The students were motivated to enhance their research aptitude. The lecture was attended by the undergraduate and post-graduate students of sciences under the supervision of Prof. Parveen Ansari (HOD) and other staff members.
A field trip to Panjab Agricultural University and Harisar Industries, Ludhiana, was organized for the students of B.Sc. (Medical) by the Biological Society of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, under the supervision of Prof. Gurpreet Kaur Deol and Prof. Harpreet Kaur Khurana. Dr. Jaspal Singh, Entomologist at PAU, Ludhiana, provided practical exposure to the students about different species of honey bees, diseases of bees, equipment used for beekeeping, processing, storage and sterilization of honey. He, also, gave indepth knowledge about the various training programmes being organized by PAU and motivated the students to adopt apiary as a profession. At Harisar Industries, the students learned about the different methods of wood seasoning and different stages of conversion of wooden logs into plywood. Dr. Inderjit Singh Sohal, Director HIC, emphasized that an industrial visit plays a significant role in imparting practical knowledge to the students.
An academic visit to school of Animal Biotechnology, GADVASU was organized by the Department of Biotechnology for B.Sc. biotechnology students. Dr. Deepak Deka of Molecular Diagnostics and Vaccinology elaborated on the technique of PCR and shared very important and valid practical points. Mr. Barinder Singh, an alumnus of our department pursuing his Ph.D. there demonstrated the PCR technique at length to the students and arranged for hands-on training for the students which made them understand the concept exhaustively. Mr. Sarabjot Singh also an alumnus of our department showed A2, B2 Laminar Air Flow, Bio safety cabinet and working of simple, inverted and flouorscent microscope. Dr. Deka demonstrated the technique of Western Blotting and PAGE in a comprehensive manner. He also focused on minute detailing of setting up an experiment and shared the aims of the DBT funded projects running presently in his lab. The various projects aim at molecular characterization and developing vaccines for the various disease-causing viruses. He was courteous enough to take students' queries. He made the students tour his lab and get familiar with the working of other highly sophisticated instruments. A visit to the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, PAU was also paid. Dr. Bharathi Mahindru, Assistant Entomologist showed around Iher cell culture and Molecular Biology Lab where the study of the functions of various genes in insects is being carried out through molecular biology techniques. She demonstrated the working of Nano Drop Spectrophotometer, Gel Documentation System, Tissue Homogenizer, Microinjection Assembly and Cryostorage set up (-800 C). She elaborated on the cloning procedure, blue-white screening method and post- cloning confirmation steps. An another visit to the department of Agriculture Biotechnology was also carried out. Dr. Pawan Kumar Malhotra, Assistant Biotechnologist showed around the various Plant Tissue Culture Labs consisting of working room, Media preparation room, inoculation and incubation room. He also made the students tour around the glass houses and showed various plants growing under controlled conditions. It was a great learning experience for the students.
A Departmental PowerPoint presentation competition was organized by the Department of Biotechnology. In this competition seven students participated and presented on a variety of science topics such as Animal Behavior, Drug Approval, Biochemistry of Sleep and Dreams, Novel Drug Delivery Methods, Artificial Intelligence, Metabolic Disorders and Recycling. This presentation competition was organized to encourage creativity among students and offer them a platform to showcase their skills. The judges on the occasion were Prof Hardeep Kaur, Prof Jasdeep Kaur and Prof Amritvijay Kaur. The artistic endeavor of the students was highly praised by the faculty members. The first prize was bagged by Souyma chauhan (2nd sem) whereas Simranjeet Kaur (6th sem) and Tanvir Kaur (4th sem) won the second prize. The third prize was secured by Karamdeep Kaur (2nd sem) and Tanveer Singh (2nd sem). The consolation prizes were won by Nisha (4th sem) and Noorpreet Singh (2nd sem). Prof Shikha Jain announced the winners and congratulated them. Principal Prof Jaswant Singh praised the students and motivated them to take part in such competitions in future too.
A One-Day State-Level Seminar on "Rights of Women & Divyangjan" was organized by GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar as part of the celebration of Women's Day. The event was a collaborative effort of the Women Cell and Equal Opportunities Cell for the disabled persons. Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh formally welcomed the speakers Dr. Mona Goel, Assistant Professor, GNDU Regional Campus, Jalandhar & Dr. Manjyot Kaur, Assistant Professor, GHG Institute of Law, Sidhwan Khurd. Dr. Mona Goel sensitized the audience to the neglect and double discrimination faced by the disabled women at the hands of the society. She exhorted the Government to take necessary steps to instill a sense of confidence and self-esteem among the differently abled women. Dr. Manjyot Kaur while speaking on the occasion generated awareness among the girl students about the various articles of the constitution and various laws enforced by the Government for the protection of women. A vote of Thanks was presented by Prof. Harcharan Kaur and Dr. Baljit Singh. The stage was conducted by Prof. Shikha Jain and Dr. Paramjit Kaur. At the end Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh appreciated efforts of the members of women cell Prof. Harcharan Kaur, Prof. Shikha Jain, Dr. Paramjit Kaur, Prof. Anjana Kumari and Dr. Sonia Ahuja. He also motivated the girl students to draw the inspiration from the eminent women speakers.
The workshop was on anxiety and stress in sports persons at novice to elite level. He enlightened on various strategies to enhance performance with the help of psycho-regulation, self-talk, imagery and other mental exercises. These exercises help in reducing stress and competition anxiety which in return is helpful in achieving in competitive sports situations. Dr. Agyajit Singh also gave a mental exercise session to some players. The session was an interactive one. This workshop was a collaborative effort by Dept. of Psychology and Physical education. Prof. Tejinder Singh and Dr. Paramjit Kaur thanked the students, staff members and students of physical education. Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh appreciated the efforts of both the departments.
The training programme cum workshop by Barclays' under 'Connect with Work' CSR initiative concluded at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh lauded Ms. Karishma Arora, a freelance educational trainer, and Ms. Eisha Sharma, a professional skills trainer, for their unrelenting commitment during the programme towards upliftment of the skills of the participants to match the global recruitment scenario. The trainers practically exposed the students to techniques of effective public speaking, negotiation, e-mail etiquettes, telephonic conversations, personal interview and formal appearance. The well chalked out sessions by the trainers brought about a real time transformation in the participants by tackling their inhibitions and targeting on their latent personality traits. In the valedictory session, after the presentation of the programme report by Prof. Namrita Singh Ahluwalia, the trainers were felicitated. Department of Physics organized an extension lecture on 'Nano-sciences & Nano-technology' as a mark of celebration on the National Science Day. Dr. Kiranjeet, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, PAU, was the resource person on this occasion. The speaker was given a warm welcome by Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, and Dr. Inderjeet Singh, HOD. The resource person in her address, explored the application of carbon nanotubes in the fields of agriculture, textile industries, electronic devices, medical field, automobile industry and also, in daily life. As a mark of tribute and to commemorate the memory of S. Bakhtawar Singh Gill, Former President, College Governing Council, GHG Khalsa Colleges, Gurusar Sadhar, organized an Inter-College Gurbani Gayan Competition. The programme began after the Bhog of Akhand Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The function was organized and celebrated collectively with religious fervour by all the institutions working under the Management- G.H.G. Khalsa Degree College, College of Education and College of Pharmacy. On this occasion, a Free Medical Check-up Camp and a Blood Donation Camp were organized with a team of doctors from DMC Hospital, Ludhiana, and Civil Hospital, Malerkotla, respectively. The Camps were inaugurated by Sardarni Mohinder Kaur Gill, S. Manjit S. Gill, President and Mrs. Hareena Gill. S. Jaswant Singh, Principal, Degree College, while throwing light on the occasion told that many teams from different colleges participated in this event with great enthusiasm. 53 units of blood were donated voluntarily and nearly 353 patients underwent medical check-up with specialists in Orthopaedics, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Gastroenterology and De-addiction from DMC Hospital, Ludhiana. The Camps attracted a number of local residents as well. The patients were given medicines free of cost. The Guest of Honour, S. Satinder Pal Singh Sidhwan, in his address said that the visionary S. Bakhtawar Singh Gill took the initiative of providing education in this region during the times when there was prevalence of female foeticide and education was the domain of men. He appreciated the classical gurbani presentation by the youngsters. In the group category of the Gurbani Gayan competition, GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, achieved the first position while Khalsa College, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, stood second and Gobind National College, Narangwal, stood third. In the individual category, Gursimran Kaur of Khalsa College, Ludhiana, Chetna of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, and Manjot Singh, Gobind National College, Narangwal, stood first, second, and third, respectively. The panel of Judges who gave judgement on the occasion included S. Gobinder Singh Alampuri, S. Sahibjit Singh and S. Rajinder Singh. The winners were felicitated and honoured with trophies and cash prizes. An exhibition of books was also organized by Gurmat Pustak Centre on the occasion. Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle and N.S.S Units of the college made a special contribution towards making this event successful. In the end, a vote of thanks was given by Dr. S. S. The P.G. Department of Commerce & Management at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, organized a placement drive for the final year students of BBA, B.Com & M.Com in association with ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Limited. Mranal Sharma, Human Resource Manager at ICICI Prudential, was given a warm welcome by Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, Prof. Tejinder Pal Singh, HOD, and Dr. Anubhuti Modgil. The company offered jobs in three profiles bank insurance, agency and direct marketing. After conducting a group discussion, ten students were shortlisted for the personal interview round. S.P. Malhotra from Kurukshetra University (NAAC Expert) delivered their valuable lecture on Different Criteria's of Self-Study Report. The Biology Society of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, organized an extension lecture on 'Local environmental issues and community participation'. Dr. Charan Kumar, Associate Professor, A.S. College Khanna, as the guest speaker was welcomed and introduced by Prof. Gurpreet Kaur Deol, HOD. Dr. Charan in his address discussed in detail various environmental issues like solid waste, biodiversity, excessive use of pesticides, deforestation, and their impact on human health. He inspired the students by showing his self-designed low cost hydroponic unit and encouraged them to start their own kitchen garden using organic manure. He practically demonstrated methods for indoor seed germination and growing of healthy plants using a nutrient solution prepared from vermicompost. Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh presented the vote of thanks and congratulated the department of zoology for organizing the event. A College Development Council (CDC) sponsored National level Seminar on 'Financial Inclusion for inclusive growth: Opportunities & Challenges' was organized by P.G. Department of Commerce & Management at G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, under the guidance of S. Manjit Singh Gill, President & Chief Patron. Dr. Karamjit Singh, Registrar PU, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Sukhdev Singh, Dean Research CTU, as the key note speaker, were given a foral welcome by Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh ( Patron), Dr. H.S. Brar and Prof. Tejinder Pal Singh (Convenor). The theme of the seminar was introduced by Dr. Anubhuti Modgil, Co-convenor. In their addresses, the Chief Guest and the key note speaker pointed out the lack of financial literary, inequality, policy and regulatory hurdles as challenges for financial inclusion. Various papers were presented in two sessions chaired by Dr. R.K. Mittal, Kurukshetra University, and Dr. Bimal Anjum, DAV College Chandigarh, in which financial inclusion from the perspective of demonetization, women empowerment, digitalization and fintech were discussed. IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited in a placement drive organized at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, issued job offer letters to eleven students. The students were selected on the basis of a preliminary test and a final interview. The Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle Unit of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, organized a seminar on the 'Contemporary relevance of the philosophies of Guru Gobind Singh Ji'. Dr. Bhim Inder Singh, Head Department of Punjabi Literary Studies & In-charge Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Chair, Punjabi University, Patiala, was the guest speaker. He was given a warm welcome by Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, and Dr. Sohan Singh, Unit in-charge. In his powerful address, Dr. Bhim Inder Singh drew parallels between of ideologies of Guru Gobind Singh Ji & the depth behind the philosophies of Karl Marx. From scientific socialism to a vision of society upholding equality and the ultimate effect on climate change due to capitalism in today's world, were thought provokingly linked by Dr. Bhim Inder.S. Manjit Singh Gill, President College Governing Council, added that any education is considered successful only if it lays emphasis on honesty, integrity, ethical and moral values at its core. Akashdeep Singh, a B.Sc. student of the college, was declared winner of the Moral Test 2020 conducted earlier. The Department of Music at G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, celebrated Basant Panchami with famous singer Dr. Nivedita Singh, Head of Music Department at Punjabi University, Patiala, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Sonia, HOD, welcomed the Chief Guest while adding that the celebration marks the onset of spring and the full bloom of the beautiful yellow flowers. The celebrations had a devotional start by dedication of hymns to Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of music, knowledge and learning. The melodious voice and highly intellectual speech of Dr. Nivedita enthralled the audience. She presented gurbani and the rich folk music of Punjab, through her songs, in her speech. S. The P.G. Department of Mathematics organized an extension lecture on 'Counting Principles' for the graduate and post-graduate students of the department. Dr. Gursharanjit, Professor of Mathematics at S.C.D. Government College, Ludhiana, was the guest speaker and Prof. N.S. Sidhu, Former Head, was the Guest of Honour. He was given a warm welcome by Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal. In his address, Dr. Gursharanjit, discussed the four different form of Pigeon-hole principle and its relevance for the competitive examinations. He solved problems related to this principle which he emphasized as important for cracking the competitive exams. The students presented colorful posters on the counting principle concept. Pawandeep (M.Sc. II), Nancy & Amandeep (M.Sc. I) and Garima (B.Sc. II) bagged the first, second & third prize, respectively, in the poster making competition. G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, celebrated the Swachhta Pakhwara Abhiyan from 27th January to 10th February, 2020, under the guidance of Principal Jaswant Singh and NSS Incharges. This being one of the most appreciated moves of the Modi Government aims for hygienic and cleaner India. Swachhta Pakhwada started with a swachhta pledge in which volunteers promised to keep their surroundings clean. As a part of the campaign, awareness lectures on swachhta and water conservation were held. On this occasion, Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, in his address quoted various examples about how efficient conversion of waste can generate wealth. The masses were, also, made aware about the value of water and importance of its conservation by Dr. Rajinder Singh. A rally on the theme of 'saving environment' was taken out in Ghuman village in which the NSS volunteers tried to create awareness using colorful posters. Prizes were given to the volunteers with best posters. A tree plantation drive and cleaniless drive were, also, conducted in Tusa village. The efforts for the successful conduct of the abhiyan by the NSS incharges: Prof. Jaswinder Singh, Prof. Aarti, Prof. Amritpal Singh and Prof. Manmeet Kaur, were duly lauded. Prof. S. K. Gupta, Prof. Inderjit Singh and Mr. Ravi Kumar Garg were also present on this occasion.
The alumni of G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, walked down the memory lane at the alumni meet organized at the college campus. The meet was attended by several former students from different batches visiting their alma mater after a long time and reminiscing their golden days. The Department of Zoology at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, organized a 'Powerpoint Presentation Competition' for the final year B.Sc. medical students. The students gave very informative and impressive presentations on topics like human cloning, cancer, human syndromes, animal behaviour and communication, green chemistry, mutations, sericulture, corona-virus, surgery etc. Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, while appreciating the efforts of Prof. Gurpreet Kaur Deol, Convenor, and Prof. Harjinder Kaur, said that the main aim of this activity was to enhance the communication skills and the self-confidence of the students. Muskan Verma was declared as the 'Best Presenter' while Rajan and Shivani secured second and third positions, respectively.
Biological Society of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar organized paper reading and quiz competition. The main aim of this activity was to inculcate self confidence among students and to enhance their knowledge. In paper reading competition there were four teams. They were asked four rounds of questions related to Biology and General Knowledge. Team Coleoptera comprising Ritika, Harleen, Vijay Bansal and Jaspreet stood first. Team Lepidoptera with Shivani, Muskan, Sukhwinder and Anushka got Second Position. In paper reading competition, thirteen students participated. They presented their views on various topics like Pollution, Fashion, ill-effects of Alcohol, Texting while driving, Harmful effects of Energy drinks etc. Prof. Jasbinder Kaur from Department of Chemistry and Prof. Parveen Ansari, HOD Department of Mathematics, were the judges Anushka Saha from B.Sc. I stood first Sandeep Kaur and Ritika got second position. On the whole today's event was a great learning experience for the students.
The P.G. Department of History at G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, organized a poster making competition under the aegis of Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Archeological & Museum Department, Government of Punjab. Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, while interacting with the students said that the struggle of freedom fighters holds much relevance in the contemporary content as an inspiration for young generation to value freedom. In the poster making competition, Ravinder Kaur, B.A. IIIrd year, Jasnoor Singh, B.A. IInd year & Arshpreet Singh, B.A. IInd year, secured first, second & third positions, respectively. On Jan 29th a quiz contest was organized by the Department of Biotechnology in which the four teams by the names of Vit A, Vit D, Vit E and Vit K were constituted. Each team consisted of three students with one student each from three different semesters. Team A was comprised of Simranjit Kaur (6th Sem ) , Hargobind Kaur (6th Sem) and Jashanpreet Kaur (4th Sem).Team D was comrised of Manjot Kaur (6th Sem ), Tanvir Kaur (4th Sem) and Saumya Chauhan (2nd Sem).Team E consisted of Rajdeep Kaur (6th Sem ), Simar Riat (2nd Sem) and Jaspreet Singh (2nd Sem).Team K was composed of Harleen Kaur (6th Sem ), Nisha (4th Sem) and Noorpreet Singh (2nd Sem). The quiz contest was designed to have 5 main rounds with each round consisting of 8 subrounds. The four rounds were based on subject questions whereas one round had general knowledge questions. Team D won the contest with a score of 280 and Team K stood second with a score of 277.5 whereas team E won the third position with a score of 205.
A lecture was conducted under the flagship of career guidance department of G.H.G Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar on 28th Jan, 2020 at seminar hall with the aid of Post Graduate Dept. of Chemistry & Physics, Dept. of Biology and Dept. of Commerce, respectively. The Resource person was Mr. Dev Raj Kaushik Director, Bright Academy, Ludhiana along with Mr. Nitish (Head) for motivating, guiding students for various governments jobs and schemes. Mr. Kaushik demonstrates the students on overhead projectors with knowledgeable slides along with the real life examples of great personalities. Lecture was more like a workshop as students in large participated wholeheartedly. 25 students of M.Sc (Chemistry), 23 students of M.Sc(Physics), 37 students of B.Sc and 22 students of B.Com with M.Com attended the seminar.
Science workshop for young minds was held on 28th January 2020 on GHG Khalsa college gurusar sudhar organised by Khalsa collegiate senior secondary school gurusar sudhar. S. Prem Singh (State Awardee) was the resource person for this workshop. The motive of the workshop was to ignite the young minds for science and pursue career in research. The focus was on school students of nearby rural area. The workshop went really well and students were exposed to practical knowledge and demonstration of science.

As per the instructions and guidelines given by the Election Commission of India, NSS Unit of GHG Khalsa College has celebrated the National Voter's Day in the college to promote democratic participations. On 25th Jan, 2020 NSS units students and staff took pledge to celebrate the National Voter's Day. He is also an active member of an overseas chapter of Alumni Association in Toronto of this college. G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar always welcomes its alumni with warmth and open arms whenever they pay a visit to their alma-mator. Sardar Margind Natt visited the college on 20th January 2020. An interactive session was organized in the seminar hall with the students of postgraduate classes. Sardar Natt shared his cherished memories with the students and delivered an inspirational talk covering various aspects of life including moral values, importance of parents and teachers, life goals and many more. He also informed the students about the opportunities as well as challenges available in Canada and asked them to prepare well before planning to move abroad. 7 Days NSS camp, with the moto 'SAVE ENVIRONMENT' was organized at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, under the ample guidance of Principal Jaswant Singh. 147 volunteers participated in the camp which commenced on 23rd December 2019 with registration and formation of various committees for proper functioning of the camp. The camp included several activities on day to day basis like yoga, cleanliness drive and exercises for physical fitness. A rally was organized in Tusa and Ghuman villages, joined by village panchayat, for the awareness of common masses regarding saving the environment and drug de-addiction. During the camp, activities like debate, Nukkad Natak and blood checkup camp was also organized. Apart from the regular activites, one day in the camp was dedicated to martyrdom of Chhote Sahibzade as 'Shahadat Divas'. The volunteers performed langar sewa on the day. On the valedictory day, on 30th December, 2019, an extravaganza was organized which was concluded by the appreciation of students through an interactive session with Principal Jaswant Singh. A cultural program was also organized by the volunteers presenting different cultural forms. Principal Jaswant Singh Goraya appreciated the efforts of NSS volunteers as well as teacher in-charges. He also emphasized that such type of activities and camps boost the national spirit and develop harmony, co-operation and integration.
GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, celebrated the 550th birth anniversary of the founder Guru of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev Ji by organizing a national level seminar on 'Guru Nanak Bani: Ideologies & Different Perspectives' in association with Punjabi Academy, Delhi. S. Gurbheg Singh, Secretary Punjabi Academy, and Prof. Manjit Singh (Retd.), Former Head Punjabi Department, Delhi University, were given a floral welcome by S. Manjit Singh Gill, President, and Dr. S.S. Thind Secretary. Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, in his welcome address, brought forth the essentiality of Guru Nanak Sahib's philosophies in relation to today's societal, environmental and political scenarios. In his keynote address, Prof. Manjit Singh, said that gurbani holds the entire ethos of the universe through Guru Granth Sahib Ji and is not just a religious treasure but is, also, a cultural treasure of Punjab, India. S. Gurbheg Singh, emphasized the need to preserve and propagate the language 'Punjabi' which is facing an existential crisis in this mix world. He urged for the discernment of 'Nanak's' presence through bani as a way of life. Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, also, highlighted the universal appeal of the preachings which instead of turning into oblivion, have rather proved to be eternal. The philosophical insights of one God, ideal society, elimination of discrimination, equality, community kitchen and many more were discussed by the resource persons. The first session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Principal Mata Sundri College, Delhi. The papers on 'Guru Nanak Bani: Women oriented Perspective', 'Guru Nanak Bani: Humanitarian Goals' and 'Guru Nanak Bani: Societal Perspective' were respectively presented by Dr. Kuldeep Kaur Pahwa, GTBK College, Delhi, Prof. Avtar Singh, Ramgarhia College, Ludhiana, and Dr. Manjinder Singh, GNDU, Amritsar. The second session was chaired by Sahit Academy Awardee Dr. Manmohan Singh. In this session, papers were presented by Dr. Sarabjeet Singh, PTU, Kapurthala, Dr. Ramanpreet Kaur, Central University, Bathinda, Dr. Harjit Kaur, Govt. The closing ceremony of the 3 days long Panjab University Inter College Football (W) Championship took place at G.H.G Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. MCM DAV College, Sec-36, Chandigarh, clinched the championship by achieving maximum points in this tournament. S. Kulbeer Singh (MLA Zira) graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest. The host team was declared runners-up after registering a win over the team of P.G. Govt. College, Sector 11, Chandigarh, which bagged the second runners-up position. The winners were felicitated. The football team of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, emerged as the overall champions at the All Open Football Tournament (Mangli Cup), Uchhi Mangli. President S. Manjit Singh Gill while congratulating the team added that the college team grabbed the winners' trophy and a cheque of Rs. 61000/- by beating 15 other teams which had participated in the tournament. The team began its winning streak by defeating Bhamaddi Club with a score of 2-1, followed by a quarter final win over Jallah Club at 2-0. In the semi-final match, the team of D.B.A. Punjabi University, Patiala, was beaten by a margin of 2 goals. The final match against Kheri Salabatpur with a score of 3-1 proved to be the ultimate test for the college team to be declared as the deserving champions. Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh further informed that Manvir Singh, Captain, College Football team, was declared as the Best Player of the Tournament while Jagseer Singh, also, from the college team, won the Highest Goal Scorer of the Tournament Award with a tally of 5 goals. The efforts of the team coach Mohd. Akbar, Team Manager Dr. Baljinder Singh and H.O.D. Prof. Tejinder Singh were duly lauded by the management for the clean sweep by the college football team.
GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, observed the 'Rashtriya Poshan Maah' by organzing an awareness seminar with focus on women's health. Prof. Shikha Jain and Dr. Praneet Kaur were the guest speakers on this occasion. Prof. Shikha Jain discussed the objectivity behind the launch of the government's flagship nutrition scheme PM's Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment (POSHAN). She addressed the issues pertaining to women's health and delved further into importance of personal hygiene and impact of nutrition rich diet while busting various myths and taboos associated with them. Dr. Parneet Kaur, through a presentation, targeted the epidemics of malnutrition and anemia. She discussed in detail the guidelines to inculcate balanced diet, personal hygiene and fight depression through changes in lifestyle. Principal Jaswant Singh lauded the efforts of the department for ushering in a healthy generation by creating awareness about this prevailing problem.
The management, staff and students of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, welcomed the MAKA (Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad) Trophy by giving a rousing reception with dhol and beats. Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh Goraya and Prof. Tejinder Singh, Head, P.G. Department of Physical Education, graciously received the trophy from Dr. Parminder Singh Ahluwalia, Director Sports and Mr. Rakesh Malik, Deputy Director Sports, P.U. A procession with the trophy, celebrating the victory of Panjab University after a haul of 13 years, was taken out by the enthusiastic players. Principal Jaswant Singh while extending felicitations added that the college has been one of the major contributors to the points tally with 2250 points through participation in 37 out of the 39 sports disciplines in P.U. Inter-College tournaments. He attributed this incredible feat to the dedication of the staff and students and especially, to the provision of international level sports facilities at the campus by the college management. The festival celebrations were inaugurated by Prof. Jaswant Singh Goraya, Principal Degree College, Dr. Satvinder Kaur, Principal, College of Pharmacy and Dr. Sarabjit Kaur, Principal, College of Education. The girls in traditional attire and a variety of cultural events added liveliness to the occasion. The audiences were captivated by the cultural programme consisting of folk dances: Giddha, tappey and Punjabi Boliyan and were equally delighted by traditional Punjabi dishes like Kheer, Malpure and tikkis. Various competitions like dish-making, rangoli, mehendi, hairstyle-making and cultural quiz were organized. An exhibition depicting the rich cultural heritage of Punjab was organized by P.G. Department of Computer Science. Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal while felicitating the winners and participants added that such celebrations are instrumental in keeping the culture alive in this ever modernizing world.

Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh inaugurated the programme and emphasized on the need for quality education, proper utilization of time and importance of self-discipline in his welcome address. Prof. Tejinder Pal Singh, HOD, while interacting with the new admitees provided a glimpse of the glorious history of the college with focus on the department in particular. Prof. Anubhuti Modgill, further, through a presentation apprised the students about academic and extra-curricular activities, career opportunities and the achievers of the department. GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, commenced the new academic session 2019-2020 by celebrating Miri-Piri Diwas. On this occasion, after the recitation of Gurbani and Kirtan by the students, Principal Jaswant Singh Goraya extended a warm welcome to the newly admitted students and their parents. He wished the freshers a bright future while emphasizing on self-discipline and time management as the focus areas. Dr. Sohan Singh enriched the audience about the inspirational life of sixth Guru of Sikhism Guru Hargobind Sahib who had introduced the concept of Miri-Piri (master the mind, elevate the spirit). Prof. Jatinder Singh, Head IT Cell, threw light on the college's social media presence and the ERP system, especially, the student information portal that can be easily accessed by parents and students alike. The state-of-the-art Indoor Shooting Range at GHG Khalsa Colleges, Gurusar Sadhar, was formally inaugurated by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba, PVSM, AVSM, ADC. The Chief Guest was welcomed with a Guard-of-Honour by the NCC cadets of the college. Lt. Gen. I. S. Singha (Retd.), Director, while introducing the Chief Guest as an exemplary and the most accomplished officer, added that history has been created in the wings of this highly coveted inauguration as a celebration of the progress made by the college, in 70 years of its glorious foundation, and the region to-date. Admiral Sunil Lanba in his address said that the excellent infrastructure and the sterling achievements of the college make it an ideal institute for honing the skills and improving the lives of future nation builders. He added that this shooting range would act as a propeller for the youth of this region to pursue a career in shooting and join the defence forces. S. Manjit Singh Gill, President, Governing Council, informed that it was a landmark moment when the longest serving Chairman, Chiefs of the Staff Committee, Admiral Sunil Lanba unveiled the plaque and then, took aim to shoot the inaugural shot at the 10 m indoor air rifle and pistol shooting range, leaving an indelible mark of inspiration for generations of youngsters. This shooting range, designed to international standards with a capacity of 25 targets by Architect Ranjit P. John, will serve as a gateway of opportunities for the youth of Ludhiana and neighbouring districts and would, thus, enhance the stature of the region to a world class level. Today, nearly 115 students registered for Alumni Association of the college, when they got together for a meet. The students were welcomed by Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, who appreciated them for keeping the name of their alma mater flying high. He reminded them that they are the ambassadors of the college. The alumni shared their experiences, revived cherished memories and dedicated their success to the faculty members. GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, organized its Annual Prize Distribution Function marking the 70 years of its glorious foundation. Dr. Pushpinder Singh Puniha, Director General of Income Tax, North-west region, Chandigarh, presided over as the Chief Guest. The guests were given a Guard of Honour and were piloted along by the NCC cadets. Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, introduced the Chief Guest as a dedicated and decorated officer committed to learning and education, while throwing light into the rich history of the College and its phenomenal achievements during the year. The awards and cash prizes were presented to nearly 230 students for achieving excellence in academics, sports, NCC, NSS, youth festival and the overall best students of the year. Apart from the 127 academic and extra-curricular achievers, the college honoured its distinguished sportspersons who achieved a tally of 103 medals in various prestigious competitions. Dr. P.S. A 'Battle of the Brains' quiz competition was organized by the P.G. Department of Commerce & Management of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, with Prof. Priyanka Singla and Prof. Namrita Singh Ahluwalia as the overall coordinators. Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh welcomed the Guest of Honour Prof. Jagdev Singh, Retired Scientist, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, and introduced him as a great inspiration and a motivator who, as an alumni of the college, has been a guiding light for the youngsters. Talking about the quiz, Head of the Department Prof. Tejinder Pal Singh, told that after getting screened through a written test at the preliminary level, four teams of three students each qualified for the final level, out of which the team of Sumit, Gurpinder and Baldeep was declared the winner by a margin of 20 points after battling it out in the areas of subjective knowledge, business awareness, identification of logos and famous personalities. The winners were felicitated. The event was a success due to the praise worthy efforts of the students and the faculty members of the department.
At the Annual Sports Prize Distribution Function of Panjab University held at Directorate of Sports, PU, Chandigarh, the sportspersons of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, were honoured in the presence of Chief Guest Mr. Akhil Kumar, Olympian Boxer, Dr. Karamjit Singh, Registrar, and Dr. Parminder Singh, Director Sports. In the men's section, the college bagged three university championship trophies in football, hockey and archery, respectively. Overall in PU affiliated colleges, the college has secured the fifth position in the men's section and is at the top position in Punjab region (excluding the PU affiliated colleges in UT) with 2250 points. In the women's section as well, the college won three PU overall championships in football, sepak takraw and archery, respectively. The college bid adieu to its seniormost professor S. Navdeep Singh Sidhu, Head, Department of Mathematics, who superannuated from active service after glorious 22 years with the college. On this occasion, an impressive farewell function was organized by the college management. While acknowledging the outstanding contribution, the college management conveyed best wishes and prayed for his good health and success post-retirement. His colleagues remembered their long association with him and shared some fond memories. He was honored by the college management, faculty members and the students.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Recruitment examination was successfully conducted at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh, Chief Invigilator of the Examination, while providing the details informed that more than 8 lakh candidates from across the country had applied for the ITBP recruitment process, of which 1800 candidates were scheduled for the exam at the college campus. The college provided the requisite facilities, proper amenities and peaceful environment for the smooth conduct of the examination. Prof. Navdeep Singh was the Coordinator and Prof. S.K. Gupta was the Centre Superintendent. S. Harmesh Chand from 26 Bn Baddowal and S. Deepak from R.S. Data, Delhi, and Ryan Computer Coaching Centre, Ludhiana, were the appointed observers for the examination.
An academic visit to School of Animal Biotechnology, GADVASU was organized by the Department of Biotechnology for the final year B.Sc. Biotechnology students. Dr Deepak Deka of Molecular Diagnostics and Vaccinology elaborated on the technique of PCR and shared very important and valid practical points. Mr Barinder Singh an alumnus of our department pursuing his Ph.D. there demonstrated the PCR technique at length to the students and arranged for hands-on training for the students which made them understand the concept exhaustively. The students also got the opportunity to learn about the differences in the working of simple microscope and inverted microscope , Laminar Air Flow and Biosafety Cabinet. Dr Deka demonstrated the technique of Western Blotting and PAGE in a comprehensive manner. He also focussed on minute detailing of setting up an experiment. He also shared the aims of the DBT funded projects running presently in his lab. The various projects aim at molecular characterization of and developing vaccines for the various disease- causing viruses. He was courteous enough to take up students' queries. He made the students tour his lab and get familiar with the working of other highly sophisticated instruments. A visit to the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, PAU was also paid. Dr Vikas Jindal, Assistant Entomologist showed around in his Cell Culture and Molecular Biology lab where the study of the functions of various genes in insect through RNAi is being carried out through molecular biology techniques. He demonstrated the working of NanoDrop Spectrophotometer, Gel Documentation System, Tissue Homogenizer, Microinjection Assembly and Cryostorage set up (-80 degree celsius). He elaborated on the cloning procedure, blue -white screening method and post -cloning confirmation steps. He also shared his knowledge on CRISPR technology and gene editing. It was a great and enriching experience for the students.
An extension lecture was organized by the P.G. Department of Physics, G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. The resource person, Dr. Vipin Bhatnagar, Professor, Physics Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was welcomed by Dr. Nitish Dhingra. The speaker delivered a comprehensive lecture on the topic 'High Energy Physics Experiments - An Overview'. He highlighted the importance of High Energy Physics in the context of fundamental science and discussed its various benefits for our society. He covered a broad spectrum of detectors such as human-eye, PET/CT scan, MRI and the sophisticated CMS detector in use at CERN lab in Switzerland. The Department of Medical Laboratory Technology of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, organized a Seminar on 'Latest trends in Disease(s) Diagnosis in Clinical Biochemistry'. Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, welcomed the resource persons and added that the diagnosis of diseases has seen tremendous progress in recent times. Dr. Naresh Sood from GADVASU Ludhiana, Dr. Savita Jain from Singhania Hospital and Dr. Babita Asthir from PAU Ludhiana, were the resource persons on this occasion. Dr. Naresh and Dr. Babita discussed in detail about the latest techniques used for the diagnosis of diseases while Dr. Savita put forth the hygienity and safety aspects to be considered during the conduct of the laboratory tests. He said that the students of this college have carved a niche for themselves in sports as well as academically, which is a great achievement. The 2-days long 68th Annual Athletic Meet of the GHG Khalsa Colleges - Degree College, College of Pharmacy and College of Education -was declared open by the Chief Guest S. Jagjit Singh Talwandi, traced his journey through the years and felt honoured as being the Chief Guest at his alma mater. He remembered the pioneer of the college Late S. Bakhtawar Singh Gill, Former President, and his contribution in leading the college to such exceptional heights. He remarked upon the college scholarship facility and the phenomenal library having an inexhaustible and rare collection of books.S. Satinder Pal Singh Sidhwan, as the Guest of Honour and an alumnus, livened up the occasion with his melodious voice while adding that his most revered performance has been on this college's stage. Harbans Singh Ghuman, announced to donate Rs. 25 lakhs through an endowment fund for the welfare of the college, the amount of which would increase to Rs. 1 crore over the years. An academic visit to the two state-of-the-art research facilities was organized by the Dept. of Biotechnology on March 11. The students of the department visited Institute of Nanoscience and Technology, Mohali where they were shown around the various component labs of Faraday Laboratory. They were briefed about the working principles of various high-end instruments installed therein such as Particle Size Analyser, X-ray Diffractometer, Glove Box, Scanning Electron Microscope, Confocal Microscope, Atomic Force Microscope, Dynamic Light Scattering, Differential Scanning Calorimeter, Circular Dichroism, FTIR Microscope, Nanofiber Unit Electron Spinning to name a few.In the visit to IISER they got to visit eight labs in the Biological Sciences Section where they interacted with Ph.D. scholars and were briefed about the type of research work being carried out in their respective labs.The students were toured around in the labs and introduced to the instrumentation available therein. They learnt about the working of Gel Documentation System, Thermal Cycler, Western Blotting Assembly, Flourescence Microscope, Single Peltier Cell Accessory, Circular dichroism and Stopped Flow Spectrometer. UV - visible Spectrofluorimeter, Time - Resolved Spectrofluorimeter, Quasi- elastic and static light Scattering Detector, Isothermal Titration Calorimeter, Differential Scanning Calorimeter, Multifunction Microplate fluorescence Polarization Detector, Environment - controlled Multifunction Microplate Detector, Gel Luminescence and flourescence Detector, Vaccum Centrifugal Concentrator, Lyophilizer, 5-Liter Fermenter. The applications of these instruments were also detailed on to the students. At IISER they were also guided on what courses they can enroll in once they finish their graduation. The visits were undertaken to give the students exposure to the highly sophisticated instrumentation so as to generate curiosity about the scientific techniques and the inspiration and desire to pursue higher studies in their country itself rather than in the foreign lands.
As a mark of empowerment of women and a felt need for joint endeavours towards gender quality, the Department of Social Sciences at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, celebrated the International Women's Day. Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, as the Chief Guest, exemplified the new heights achieved by women beyond their stereotypical roles. He remarked that the society has made notable progress in the area of women's rights and in bridging the gender gap. In the essay writing competition organized on this occasion, Priyanka Garg stood first with Amanpreet Kaur and Pardeep Kaur bagging the second and third positions, respectively. Hardeep Singh received the consolation prize in this competition. The students also presented poems, songs and posters. A vote of thanks was given by Prof. Vishavpreet Kaur, in the end.
An Intradepartmental quiz competition was organized in the Department of Biotechnology on March 2nd, 2019. Four teams namely Alpha, Beta, gamma and Delta were constituted. There were 5 main rounds with each round consisting of 8 subrounds having questions on various curriculum subjects, general awareness and current affairs.Team Beta consisting of Navjot Kaur, Harleen Kaur and Balkaran Singh stood first, team Gamma consisting of Anitik Tiwari, Manjot Kaur and Tanvir Kaur stood second whereas team Delta composed of Anand Kumar, Simranjeet Kaur and Nisha stood third. A paper reading contest was also organized in which students spoke on a variety of science topics such as Autoimmune Diseases, Swine Flu, Role of Biotechnology in industry, Value of Antibiotics, Indian Biotechnology Industry, Cancer, Blood Pressure and life history of Louis Pasteur to name a few. Manpreet Singh stood first , Wahegurupal Singh secured second position whereas Gagandeep Kaur stood third in the contest. Manjot Kaur, Jagjit singh and Prabhjot Kaur were awarded consolation positions
The students of P.G. Department of Physical Education at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, have brought laurels to the college in their respective disciplines. Anurag Hundal, an athlete and a national level chess player, finished the 1st Ropar half marathon on the podium at second position for which he received a certificate and a cash prize. The event witnessed participation from over 500 runners. In Archery, Sukhjeet Singh, Manpreet Singh and Simranjeet Kaur from the College Archery Center proved their mettle by getting selected as the members of the Senior Punjab Archery Team for the Senior National Archery Championship to be held at Bhubaneswar in March. Also, Manjot Kaur, a final year student of B.P.Ed., has received a certificate and a cheque from the Principal of Oxford School of Education, Bathinda, where she has successfully completed her internship programme conducted by All About Sports & Health (AASH). As a mark of tribute and to commemorate the memory of S. Bakhtawar Singh Gill, Former President, College Governing Council, the GHG Khalsa Colleges, Gurusar Sadhar, organized an Inter-College Gurbani Gayan Competition. The programme began after the Bhog of Akhand Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The function was organized and celebrated collectively by-G.H.G. Khalsa Degree College, College of Education and College of Pharmacy. On this occasion, a Free Medical Check-up Camp and a Blood Donation Camp were organized with a team of doctors from Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana, and Blood Bank, Ludhiana, respectively. The Camps were inaugurated by the Chief Guest Giani Harpal Singh from Gurudwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Sardarni Mohinder Kaur Gill and S. Manjit S. Gill, President. In his highly inspirational speech, the Chief Guest motivated the students to spare some time for the study and discussion of Gurbani and Gurmukhi. He was all praise for the Governing Council for providing all-round educational avenue for the students. S. Jaswant Singh, Principal, Degree College, while throwing light on the occasion told that many teams from different colleges participated in this event with great enthusiasm. The blood was donated voluntarily by 112 students and nearly 345 patients underwent medical check-up with specialists in Orthopaedics, Internal Medicine, Dietician and Eyes from Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana. The Camps attracted a number of local residents as well and the patients were given medicines free of cost. 'Dastarbandi Competition' was another major attraction which saw an impeccable display of colourful turban-tying skills by students. Of the 23 students who participated, Sarabjeet Singh stood first while Narinderpal Singh and Varinder Singh stood second and third, respectively. In the group category of the Gurbani Gayan competition, Khalsa College Civil Lines, Ludhiana achieved the first position while GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar stood second and Guru National College, Doraha stood third. In the individual category, Gyan Kaur of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, Simarjeet Kaur of Khalsa College, Ludhiana, and Pallvi of Khalsa College, Ludhiana, stood first, second, and third respectively. The panel of Judges who gave judgement on the occasion included S. Gobinder Singh Alampuri, Smt. Baljit Kaur and S. Gursharan Singh. The winners were felicitated and honoured with trophies and cash prizes by Guest of Honour S. Gurpreet Singh, Founder, Manukhta Di Sewa Society, Ludhiana, who took this opportunity as an eye opener for the youth to identify and serve humanity as the highest form of religious discipline. An exhibition of Books was organized by Gurmat Pustak Centre on this occasion. The S. Ramanujan Society of Mathematics at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, celebrated the National Mathematics Day in memory of the famed mathematician Srinivasan Ramanujan by organizing a lecture followed by power point presentations and poster presentation. Prof. Dr. Gurmeet Bakshi, Chairperson, Mathematics Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the guest speaker. He was accorded a warm welcome by Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, who, also, threw light on the significant contributions of S. Ramanujan to mathematics. The audience became all the more math-literate as Dr. Gurmeet Bakshi threw light on 'Group Theory' by using the popular game 'Sudoku' as an example. The students of P.G. Department of Mathematics shared knowledge through power point presentations and poster presentations. Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, appreciated the efforts of the Department and alongwith Prof. Navdeep Singh Sidhu, Head of P.G. Department of Mathematics, honoured the guest. An extension lecture was organized on 16th February 2019 by the P.G. Department of Physics of GHG Khalsa College Gurusar, Sadhar on the topic "Space Elevator - The Next Frontier" by resource person Dr. R.K. Seth, Head, Department of Physics, DAV University, Jalandhar. Prof. Inderjit Singh, Head, Department of Physics and other faculty of department welcome Dr. R.K. Seth.Dr. R.K. Seth explored the benefits of space elevator over the rockets. He said space elevator would not produce any junk in space and it is a cheap technology. Space elevator would consist of a cable (Tether) fixed to the equator and extending in to space beyond the geostationary orbit (36000 km.)Principal Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal thanked the chief guest Dr. R.K. The NCC Cadets, NSS Volunteers, Students, Staff and Principal of GHG Khalsa College gathered in large numbers to, pay tribute to the CRPF martyrs who attained martyrdom in the Pulwama attack on 14th Feb by staging a candle march in the College campus. While addressing the gathering at the main gate of the College Principal Sr. Jaswant Singh expressed solidarity and urged that we should be aware of the anti' social elements and protect our Nation. Paying homage to the martyrs a prayer meeting was also held and a silence of two minutes was observed. Dr. S.S. Thind (Secretary, Managing Committee) Lt Gen. I.S. Singha, (Director) and Dr. H.S. Brar (Registrar) were also present on the occasion.
The P.G. Department of Physical Education of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, organised an extensive placement drive for the prospective physical education professionals. One of the leading sports professional company, All About Sports and Health (AASH), visited the college campus for recruitment where the eligible students of M.P.Ed. & B.P.Ed. were facilitated to go through the entire selection process. The entire process was governed by the requirements and norms of the company as well as the ability and performance of the candidate. Around 50 students appeared for the initial phase of the drive of which 22 students have been shortlisted for the final selection process. Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, and Dr. H.S.Brar, Registrar, felicitated and thanked the company officials.
The alumni of G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, walked down the memory lane at the alumni meet organized at the college campus. The meet was attended by several former students from different batches visiting their alma mater after a long time and reminiscing their golden days. The alumni members shared their cherished memories, renewed old friendships and revived forgotten bonds. They appreciated the steps taken by the management for the development of the college. Prof. Jaswant Singh, Principal, welcomed the members and presented the college annual report. He briefed the alumni members about the new initiatives taken by the college. Dr. Baljinder Singh, apprised the alumni about the sports achievements of the college students. Notably, about Sandeep Chaudhary, the Paralympic athlete who had set a new world record in Javelin throw, the 20 years winning streak of the College football team and the Callaghan Cup organized in the college campus. Prof. Major Singh (General Secretary) presented the funding report of the association and also, handed over the charge to the newly elected members of the association. Principal Dr. S.S. Deol (Retd.), who took charge as the President of Alumni Association from S. Prabhjot Sohi, appreciated the old students for maintaining the lifelong association with the institution. He was honoured by the college management. Lt. Gen. I. S. Singha (Retd.), Director, presented the vote of thanks while adding that an air of nostalgia was experienced with the presence of four generations of students on this occasion. The Speck Takraw women's team of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, clinched two overall trophies in the regu event and the doubles event of the speck takraw game. The championships were organized by Panjab University, Chandigarh. In the Regu Event, three players play on court while two are kept as substitutes whereas in the Doubles event it's two on two on the court and one player acts as a substitute in each team. The college girls team dominated with their exceptional performance and won both the titles without losing even a single set in all the six matches. Arpit Bajpai and Manju Bombaria, students of B.P.Ed. first year of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, brought laurels by winning a gold medal and a bronze medal, respectively. Arpit Bajpai bagged the gold medal in the double event of 29th Senior National Sepak takraw Championship which was held at Jodhpur in Rajasthan from 2nd to 6th January 2019. Sepak takraw is commonly known as kick volleyball and is played using any body part except for arms or hands. Arpit was also the national level gold medalist in 2016. Manju Bombaria won her bronze medal in the 3rd Elite (Senior) Women National Boxing Championship 2018 held at Bellary in Karnataka from 31st December 2018 to 6th January 2019. She is an international level player who had earlier participated in 5th Nation Cup 2016 and in Youth World Women Boxing Championship 2014. S. On December 27, 2018 a team comprising Dental Surgeons, paramedical staff and students from California and New York set up a free dental checkup and Awareness Camp at Premjit Memorial Community Health Center in Gurusar Sadhar, predominantly a rural agriculturist area of district Ludhiana, Punjab in collaboration with G.H.G. Khalsa Colleges (College of Pharmacy, Degree College & College of Education), Gurusar Sadhar (Ludhiana) - Punjab. The camp was inaugurated by Sardarni Mohinder Kaur Gill mother of Kaka Premjit Gill.The team led by Dr. Jasleen Kaur performed cleanings, tooth extractions, fillings, preventative and emergency service on more than 150 patients. The doctor also donated a Steam Autoclave and Ultrasonic Scalar for hygiene and sterilization purposes to the community center as well."It's a very fulfilling feeling to come back and serve the community that holds my roots," said Dr. Jasleen Kaur. Anurag Singh Hundal, a first year student of M.A. English at G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, got selected for North-Zone Inter-University Chess Championship to be held at Meerut University from 14th to 16th December 2018. He made the cut by winning each round of the game in the Inter-College Chess Championship held at Panjab University, Chandigarh, on 17th and 18th September 2018. Lt. Gen. I.S. Arjun Singh and Chhayank Sharma, shooters from GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, shot gold in All India Inter-University Shooting Championship held at Panjab University, Chandigarh. Arjun Singh won an individual gold medal in 10 mtr Air Rifle mixed event and as a team, he along-with Chhayank, struck gold in the 10 mtr Air Rifle team event. They are the B.P.Ed. first year students of the college. Earlier, they had participated in the 62nd National Shooting Championship held at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, through which they were shortlisted for International level trials. S. Manjit Singh Gill, President College Governing Council, remarked that provision of a state-of-the-art indoor shooting range facility at the college campus has been a motivator for a large number of students to take up this sport. The deepening agrarian crisis and it's catastrophic impact was discussed the National level Seminar on the Peasantry in Colonial and Post-Colonial Punjab at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. The seminar was organized by P.G. Department of History and was sponsored by Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi. Dr. Sucha Singh Gill, a renowned economist as the Chief Guest and Dr. Harbhajan Singh Deol, Former Chairman Minority Commission, as the Guest of Honor, were extended a warm welcome by President S. Manjit Singh Gill, Secretary Dr. S.S. Thind, Principal Dr. S.S. Deol and Dr. Baljit Singh. Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, brought forth the plight of farmers in his introductory address. He said that the high incidence of farmer's suicide and the rising frequency of farmers' agitation are the symptoms of deep malice prevalent in our system. He sought a solution for revival of this sector from within the society. The Chief Guest Dr. Sucha Singh Gill, by quoting various notable economists threw light on the contributing factors from the past that led to the death peasantry as the economies transcended towards industrialization. He pointed that it just takes one generation for the peasantry to fade away. The agrarian crisis should not be confined to farmers alone and it should include farm labourers and rural artisans. He suggested a cooperative effort and a strong pro-peasant leadership to break the vicious cycle. Guest of Honor Dr. Harbhajan Singh Deol urged the present society to learn from the past experiences and quoted that revolution in not exported, it is created. Dr. Sukhpal Singh from PAU, in his keynote address shared his insights from the survey conducted over the past years regarding farmer suicides in Punjab. He highlighted that a farmers' plight is full of woes and exposed to risks from prices, demand, weather and whims of policies and regulations. He said that for farming to be made profitable, the terms of trade must favour the farmers. This is possible only through harmonious forward and backward linkages. Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sohal, Professor (Retd.), GNDU, drew contrast over the Punjab Peasantry in prosperity and debt. He questioned whether Artificial Intelligence would prove to be a bane or boon for this sector. President S. Manjit Singh Gill contributed by taking the initiative for providing free education to any family of this region facing dire situation due to dependence on agriculture. The evening session was chaired by Prof. Bawa Singh who is closely associated with various farmer revolutions. Sir Ganga Ram Kheti Model and Social Models were discussed during this session. In the end, Dr. S.S. Thind, Secretary, gave a vote of thanks and summarized the proceedings by pointing out the inevitability of migration from agriculture to other sectors but through education and social cooperation this chronic problem is surmountable. The Reliance Foundation Youth Sports North Zone (I) Football Championship concluded at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, with the host team qualifying for the nationals by beating the Graphic Era (Deemed to be University) team by 2-0. The Championship was held on the playfields of the college from 27th to 29th November 2018 and the matches were live telecasted on youtube. Dharampreet Singh from host team, for his exceptional performance, was declared the man-of-the match. In the Senior Girl's Category, Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School booked their berth in the national's by defeating the Gorkha Military Intercollege team by 4-0. Also, in the Junior Boy's Category, the Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun, winded up Davinder International Public School, Ludhiana, 3-0 and thus, qualified for the nationals. The Minnerva Academy, Chandigarh, in the Senior Boy's Category had qualified for the national level a day earlier. On the last day of this Championship, Ms. Preety Mehta, Head, Reliance Foundation, was the Chief Guest. She was extended a warm welcome by S. Manjit Singh Gill, President, Dr. S.S. The 3-days long championship is being hosted under the banner of North Zone-1. The teams from Ludhiana, Chandigarh and Dehradun are participating in this championship. The team from GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, is representing the Ludhiana city. In his address Chief Guest Dr. S.S. Deol, welcomed the visiting players and encouraged them to play with the spirit of sportsmanship. Prof. Tejinder Singh, Head P.G. Department of Physical Education, informed that all the matches in this tournament will be league matches and the final match shall be played on 29th November 2018. On the first day of the Championship, GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, footballers beat SGGS College, Sector -26, Chandigarh, by 2-1 in the men's category. In the women's category, Guru Harkrishan Public School, Sangrur, won the match against Govt. Sen. Sec. School, Sector-22, Chandigarh, football team by 4-1.
GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, footballers clinched the Reliance Youth Foundation Football Championship by beating Shri Ram College Dalla in the college boys category. By the time the match ended, the score was 8-0 in favour of Champions. Striker Jaspreet Singh, for his exceptional performance, was declared the Man of the Match & Man of the Tournament. He also, bagged the coveted Golden Ball Award and the Golden Boot Award for scoring the highest number of goals in this tourney. Rohit Kataria, the goal keeper of the champions team, won the Golden Gloves Award for his outstanding performance as the unscalable great wall for the opponents. With this historic triumph, GHG Khalsa College footballers qualified for the North Zone RYFS Football Championship which will be be held from 27th to 29th of November 2018 at Nihang Shamsher Singh Stadium, GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. Prof. Tejinder Singh Sidhu, Head, P.G. Department of Physical Education, GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, hogged the limelight by bagging 4 medals under the 55+ age category in the 39th Punjab Master Athletics Championship 2018-19 held on 17th and 18th November 2018 at Mastuana Sahib (Sangrur). He won a gold medal in High Jump, a silver medal each in Triple Jump and Javelin Throw, and a bronze medal in Shotput. Lt. Gen. I.S. Singha (Retd.), Director and Dr. S.S. GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, celebrated National Press Day by organizing a Seminar on 'Modern Day Journalism: Current Scenario & Challenges' in association with the Raikot Press Club. Dr. Pyare Lal Garg, Ex-Registrar, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences was the Chief Guest. Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, welcomed the guests and highlighted the role of press and news media as the fourth pillar in explicit capacity of advocacy and implicitly in framing of issues. He said that the press and media yield power which directly as well as indirectly influences the democracy and the social system. Dr. Pyare Lal Garg, Chief Guest, said that the term fourth estate expresses the freedom of press and the proper utilization of this freedom is essential in maintaining the strength of the other three pillars of democracy. The Freedom of Speech as a fundamental right is free of any region, religion or boundaries. But, today the censorship of Press is ongoing silently. Media and Press provide the necessary friction for the proper implementation of the declared tasks in a democracy. Mr. Ram Gopal Raikoti, Head, Press Club Raikot, pointed out that it was media which used to influence politics but the scenario is of role reversal these days. Dr. H.S. Brar, Registrar, expressed concern over the killing of the journalists for authentic reporting and advised them to hold their ground and avoid becoming the mouthpiece of a political party. A Senior Journalist Mr. Mahesh Sharma added that blind publishing is as dangerous as is blind following. Prof. Baljit Singh, HOD, quoted the press and media as an important weapon against any kind of oppression. The magazine 'Aapsi Saanjh' was released on this occasion. GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, celebrated the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji by organizing a seminar in association with the Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, Ludhiana. The famous sikh philosopher, Dr. Inder Jit Singh Gogoani, and Dr. Manjinder Singh, Assistant Professor, GNDU, Amritsar, were the resource persons. Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, welcomed the guests and brought forth the essentiality of Guru Sahib's philosophy of 'One God' in today's political and religious scenario. He said that instead of getting entangled in the web of redundant beliefs, one must adopt simplicity as the principle of life. Dr. Manjinder Singh, in his address laid emphasis on the universal appeal of the teachings of the founder Guru of Sikhism. He said that Sikhism is different from Punjabiyat. Punjabiyat is a sensibility whereas Sikhism is theologically syncretistic and monotheistic. Dr. Inderjit Singh Gogoani, placed importance on the fact that the centuries old preaching's of the Guru Sahib are not just a historical memory but a continuous reality. He added that it is upon us to discern the presence of 'Nanak' through Gurbani and adopt the learning as a way of life. Dr. Ram Singh Kular, Principal (Retd.), highlighted that Guru Nanak Dev ji has always taken a strong stance against any form of discrimination and this is the need of the hour for our modern society. The Seminar was attended by nearly 100 students and more than a dozen research papers were received. Dr. Baljit Singh, Head, Department of History, summarized the proceedings of the seminar. Lt. Gen. Delhi Lions sealed their victory over the Callaghan Cup in Division 2 men's category by beating Madurai Veerans in a pulsating final held in Nihang Shamsher Singh Stadium at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. All Dreams in the Division 3 men's category and Haryana Warriors in Division 2 women's category were, also, declared the champions. In this league cum knock out tourney, the matches were played under divisions 2 and 3, respectively. The winners in each division qualify for competing in the higher division next year, with Division 1 reserved only for elite players who then represent India in International matches. On this occasion, the Chief Guest S. Harinder Singh Khalsa, Member of Parliament, was extended a warm welcome by S. Manjit Singh Gill, President, College Governing Council. Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, while introducing the Chief Guest provided a glimpse of the phenomenal achievements of the college students in the field of sports. The Chief Guest in his address congratulated the winners and felt honored to have witnessed the game of Rugby for the first time in Punjab. He further added that the extent of sports facilities and the provision of opportunities mark the college as the top-notch in the region. As a testimony of his appreciation and a will to contribute towards promotion of sports, he announced a sports grant of Rs. 31 lakhs to the college. Rakesh Chadha (Retd.), PSVM, AVSM, VSM, the guest speaker was extended a warm welcome and given a worthy introduction by Lt. Gen. I.S. Singha (Retd.), Director of the College. Lt. Gen. R. C. Chadha (Retd.) in his address brought forth the exceptional and unrelenting role of an Indian soldier in nation building. With an unflinching devotion to duty and scrupulous honesty, the Indian Armed Forces are India's ultimate weapon and a guarantor of the idea of India. He encouraged the Gen Y to join the Indian Armed Forces not just for job security but for a wholesome experience of a lifetime. In particular, he discussed about the esteemed institutions like NDA, IMA, OTA etc. and their pivotal role in shaping the future nation builders. The seminar was attended by more than 500 students from the Degree College, College of Pharmacy and College of Education. The queries of the students were handled aptly by Lt. Gen. Chadha. Punjab prevail over Rajasthan with 26-0 in a one-sided women's match on the fifth day of the All India Rugby Championship 2018 being held at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. Ramnik Kaur proves her mettle by scoring 19 of the 26 points in this match. Chief Guest S. Jagtar Singh Jagga, MLA Raikot alongwith Guests of Honour S. Tehal Singh Kailey and S. Harpreet Singh Sekhon were welcomed by Lt. Gen. I.S. Singha, Director, and Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, on this occasion. In another match under this category, the Chandigarh outplayed the hosts by 27 points.In the men's category, Madurai Veerans won over Young Rebels by 27-14. The Black Archers got better of the host team in a grueling match by a margin of 5 points as the result of an effort by Chandulal at the eleventh hour. Delhi Lions made a mark by defeating Ace Foundation at 46-13. The Tiger Hurricanes were drubbed by Punjab, 13-3.
In the ongoing Callaghan Cup 2018 at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, the Punjab team in women's category swept the board and emerged victorious against Black Dots by 32 points. S. Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, AIG Task Force Ludhiana, as the Chief Guest congratulated the team for their dominant performance. Mr. Ratan Singh Brar, ADCP Crime, Ludhiana, and Mr. Dinesh Aggarwal, Business Tycoon, also, graced the occasion as the Guests of Honour. In the men's and women's category, a total of four matches were played, respectively, on the fourth day. The skillful superiority of Rajasthan over Madhya Pradesh in the women's category was evident with a score of 22-0. Likewise, Chandigarh quelled the strong challenge by Haryana Warriors and winded up the match at 7 points to nil. The Rugby Warriors defeated the host team by 29-5. In the men's category, All Dreams team thwarted the Black Archers by 22-0. Due to the incredible effort by Shiva, the Andhra Pradesh team won the match against Gujarat by 5-0. The Rajasthan team was stamped out by Haryana Warriors at 40-0. The host team faced defeat by 5 points in a closely contested match against Chandigarh. The match between Uttrakhand and Madhya Pradesh entered extra time as both the teams shared similar scoreline by the end of the game. But in the end, the Uttrakhand team emerged victorious by a lead of 5 points. The winners of the day were appreciated for their efforts by Lt. Gen. I.S. Singha, (Retd.), Director, Dr. S.S. An exhibition by the students of Ek Nayi Umeed School, Raikot was organized at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar by the Department of Psychology and NSS unit. This school is making a great social contribution by providing educational and life skill developmental opportunities for children with special needs. The exhibition was inaugurated by Lt. Gen. I. S. Singha (Retd.) Director, Dr. S.S. Thind, Secretary, and Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal. The students of the school showcased their craftsmanship through a display of handmade candles, diyas, gift wrapping material, floating decorative items etc. as a part of the upcoming Diwali festivities. Mr. Manohar Lal Laddi, President of the School and Ms. Reema Chawla, Principal of the School, were congratulated for their initiative in bringing out a change in the society. The All India National Rugby Championship 2018 at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, had its men's category league matches on the third day. The day kicked off with a match between Rebel Warriors Chandigarh and Black Dots. The match was flagged off by Lt. Gen. I. S. Singha (Retd.), Director, and Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal. The Rebel Warriors overpowered the Black Dots with their skill and wrapped up the match at a score of 47-7. In the match between Ace Foundation and Tiger Hurricanes due to the efforts of Deepraj, the Ace Foundation won by 12 points. The Haryana Warriors with their strong defense against Haryana Bulls, winded up the match at 5-0. The Punjab team faced defeat at the hands of Young Rebels with a score of 8-15. The Bihar team was unable to open their account against the stronghold of the Chandigarh team and the match ended at 12-0. Arun was the player from the Chandigarh team who single handedly scored the 12 points in this match. The thrilling matches are a great source of inspiration and excitement for the local youth.
On the day 2 of the ongoing All India National Rugby Championship 2018 at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, the host team won their respective matches in both men's and women's category. The matches were flagged off by Dr. S.S.Deol, Principal, Prof. Tejinder Singh, Organizing Chairman, Mr. Deepak Kumar, Secretary, and Dr. Manohar Lal. In a closely contested match between the GHG Khalsa College Men's team and Andhra Pradesh, both teams ended up in a draw by full time, thus, necessitating extra time for a tie breaker. Entering into the extra time with a fighting spirit, the GHG Khalsa College Men's team came out victorious. In the women's category as well, the match between GHG Khalsa College and Rajasthan entered extra time, but still none were able to score. The toss as a tie breaker favoured the host team. The second match under men's category was won by All Dreams against Andhra Pradesh by a score of 40-5. With their accuracy and speed work, the Hyderabad Black Archer's team quashed the team from Gujarat by 83-0 points. In the women's category, Rugby Warriors Chandigarh with their strong defense winded-up the Madhya Pradesh team at 40-0. The Punjab team was also unable to open their account against the stronghold of the Chandigarh team. The Haryana Warriors defeated the Black dots by 30 points to nil. Mr. Sandeep, Operational Director Rugby India, informed that the tournament is a one of a kind experience for the rural youth. For popularizing the sport, the 'Get Into Rugby' Programme was also introduced to the local youth which can facilitate an ease of adoption of the game.
The 15th edition of All India Rugby Championship 2018 was inaugurated in a colorful ceremony at the Nihang Shamsher Singh Stadium in GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. The famous environmentalist and a social reformer, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal was the Chief Guest of the day and was extended a warm welcome by S. Manjit Singh Gill, President College Governing Council. Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, has been spearheading the anti-river pollution campaign along the Kali Bein rivulet. On this occasion, after the honorary march past by the 30 visiting teams from all-over India, an oath was taken by International Rugby player Charanjit Kaur on behalf of the players. Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, presented before the enthusiastic crowd the plethora of academic, cultural and sports achievements of the college. Notably, Sandeep Chaudhary, the college student and para-athlete who recently smashed the world record in Javelin, was given a standing ovation and felicitated by the Chief Guest. The college girls' football team was, also, appreciated for bringing the trophy home for a record 20th year in a row. Chief Guest Sant Seechewal, in his inaugural address focused on the importance of clean air and water in the sustenance of life and encouraged youth to contribute towards greener and brighter future. The match was played between Punjab and Chandigarh Warriors in which Punjab won by 1 try (3 points). In the second match, the Bihar team was washed out by the Tiger Hurricanes with a score of 0-37. The third match was won by the Ace Foundation over the Haryana Warriors with a score of 15-5 points. Madurai Veerans beat Haryana Bulls by 26-10 in the fourth match. The GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, as the defending champions, reigned over the P.U. Intercollege Football Championship for Women held at Govt. College, Sector-11, Chandigarh, by emerging victorious for a record 20th year. The college team defeated Govt. College, Sector-42, 5-0 in the qualifying match followed by a victory over the hosts, by a margin of 3 goals. In the semi-final match, the team from DD Jain College, Ludhiana, was quashed at 3-0. The closely contested final match was played with MCM DAV College and the GHG Khalsa College girls team quelled the challenge with aplomb while scripting history of sorts by emerging victorious back -to-back for the record 20th time. The students of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, outshine in the recently concluded P.U. Intercollege Shooting Championship held at P.U. Campus. The college team clinched a total of five medals in individual and team events. In 10m Air Rifle Individual event, Arjun Singh Chandel and Chhayank Sharma bagged silver and bronze medals, respectively. In this event, Arjun Singh Chandel lost by a margin of just three points to the gold medal winner who was also a World Cup medalist. As a team, Arjun Singh Chandel, Chhayank Sharma and Rajan Malik won a silver medal each in 10m Air Rifle and 50 m .22 Prone men's team event; and a bronze medal in the 50 m .22 Three Position men's team event. Sandeep Chaudhary, a Javelin Thrower from GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, with his golden throw of 60.01m scripted history by demolishing the 38 years old world record at the ongoing Asian Para Games in Jakarta's, Indonesia. With this stunner, Chaudhary clinched India's first gold of the Games in the men's F42-44/61-64 category. The category in which Chaudhary competes relates to limb deficiency, leg length difference, impaired muscle power or impaired range of movement and the athletes may or may not use prosthetics. This personal best throw by Chaudhary was his third attempt at the event. Meanwhile, the incredible effort led to the smashing of the F44 world-record of 59.82m set by China's Mingjie Gao in 1980 and turning Chaudhary into the headliner of the day at the Games. Earlier in Rio 2016 Paralympics, he had just missed out on the podium finish with a fourth position but with this world record throw he has secured his berth for the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. The world record holder while beaming with joy has already set his sight for another podium finish at the World Championships to be held in Dubai. He felt indebted to his coach, parents, faculty of GHG Khalsa College and the Paralympic Committee of India for their infinite support. S.Manjit Singh Gill, President, College Governing Council, while congratulating Chaudhary added that since its inception in 1948 the college has produced 4 Olympians and more than 200 players of international and national repute but Chaudhary has taken the achievement a notch higher by writing his name in the history books as a world record holder. On the eve of Indian Air Force Day, a seminar for creating awareness about various career opportunities available for youth in India was organized at G.H.G. Khalsa Colleges, Gurusar Sadhar (Ludhiana), on 8th and 9th October, 2018. The seminar was attended by more than 500 final year students from the three constituent colleges; Degree College, College of Pharmacy & College of Education. Mr. Nitin Jain, a 'Young Diplomat Awardee' and his team from the Developing Success Institute, New Delhi, gave presentations to the students on various career avenues. They motivated the youngsters to choose government jobs in India over migrating to greener pastures in western nations. Various instances of Indians leading by example from all walks of life were quoted to connect the youth to their roots. The aim of the visiting team was to deliver quality career services and resources to empower and enable students to make personality oriented career decisions. Specially designed capsules on tackling the tricky sections of the competitive examinations like the current affairs and english were also conducted. Through motivational examples, an emphasis was laid upon instilling the importance of balance between hardwork and smartwork for cracking the competitive exams. The seminar was concluded with a mock drill for all the participating students to ascertain their aptitude and suitability for various disciplines in government jobs. Dr. S. S. The Career Counseling, Training and Placement Cell of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, conducted a Career Orientation and Campus Placement Drive with Bhartia AXA Life Insurance Co. Limited in which the graduate and post graduate final year students participated. The event was coordinated by P.G. Department of Commerce & Management. The officials from Bhartia AXA Life Insurance Co. Ltd., Mr. Rahul Jain, Branch Officer, Mr. Amritpal Singh Hundal, Manager, and Ms. Kajal Kumari, Legal Advisor, gave orientation lecture to the students apprising them about the insurance sector with specific focus on the terminologies used in the insurance business. The students were informed about the company structure, the Insurance Business Associate position and the career scope in the insurance sector in general and with the company in specific. The orientation lecture was attended by 88 final year students. The orientation lecture was followed by a preliminary interview. The football team of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, emerged as overall champs of the recently concluded Panjab University Inter College Football Championship 2018-19 held at S.G.G.S., Mahilpur, held from 17th September to 22nd September 2018. The Doaba region of Punjab is considered to be a hub of footballers but this team created history by being the first team from the Malwa region to capture the overall trophy since 1947. Notably, Manvir Singh, the centre half of the team, was declared the Man of the Tournament and Aftab, the striker of the team, with 5 goals emerged as the Best Score of the Tournament. S. The N.C.C. Wing of G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, celebrated the commemoration of four years of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan under the guidance of Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, Col. J.S. Balli, CO, and Ms. Namrita Singh Ahluwalia, N.C.C. Incharge. This being one of the most appreciated moves of the Modi Government aims for hygenic and cleaner India. With the motto of 'Swachhta He Sewa', the NCC cadets of the college belonging to 3 Pb Girls Bn NCC, Ludhiana, organized a cleanliness drive. Using colorful posters, they tried to create awareness about cleanliness in the local community. The cadets collected plastic waste littered along the highway. The cadets with their brooms swept the periphery of S. Premjit Memorial Community Health Center, Gurusar Sadhar. As a mark of respect, the memorial statue of Late. S. Premjit Singh was cleaned to perfection and homage was then paid by the cadets. Dr. Neha Kakkar, SMO, and Dr. Neha Jain apprised the cadets about various medical waste disposal measures used at the hospital. As a part of the campaign, the cadets also held a discussion on 'Swachhta: The Way Ahead' and 'What can I do to clean my city?'. A 3-days workshop 'IN-ME' was conducted at G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar. The focus of the workshop was to bring in attitudnal changes in teaching staff and a better understanding for students. 60 selected teaching staff members were put through the rigorous workshop. The mentor and facilitator was Brig. Tringunesh Mukherjee who was ably assisted by his team of four instructors. Various activities like psychological games, tag teams, poster presentations and awareness checkers were organized during the workshop. The participants who benefited through this workshop were the faculty members of G.H.G. Khalsa College of Education, College of Pharmacy and Degree College. At the concluding ceremony, Lt. Gen. I.S. Singha (Retd.), Director, congratulated the resource persons and the faculty members on the successful culmination of the workshop and added that such initiatives are a necessity to sustain a creative openness in professional and personal life. A Student of GHG Khalsa Collegiate Senior Secondary School, Vardaan Gupta, won a gold medal in Archery at district level Punjab State School Games held at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. A student of eleventh standard, Vardaan, won the gold medal in the under-19 Recurve Category of the Archery event. He, also, managed to attain an overall first position in this category. The students of B.Sc. Biotech (Hons.) Semester IV have excelled in PU final examination conducted in May 2018 by bringing 100 % result. Navjot Kaur was placed at 9th position in top ten of the university toppers list and stood first in the college by obtaining 88.4% marks whereas Sandeep Kaur secured the second position by scoring 86.6% marks. The third position was clinched by Amandeep Kaur with 85% marks. The toppers were elated to see their results and shared their secrets of success. Navjot Kaur gave the credit of her achievement to regular study and continued revision strategy. She used to earmark her holidays for extensively studying difficult subjects and topics. Sandeep Kaur shared that the exhaustive study enabled her to perform fairly well in her exams. Amandeep Kaur told that planning of the time table for studies was her mantra of success. Prof. (Dr.) Balwinderpal Singh, Head, Department of Economics retired after a long and dedicated service spanning more than 38 years starting from 1980 till date. A farewell party was organised in the honour of Dr. Balwinderpal Singh in the seminar hall of the college. Management, staff and students remembered his services to the institution.
GHG Khalsa Group of Colleges celebrated National Sports Day on 29th August 2018 as a tribute to the phenomenal hockey player Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary. On this occasion Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal of the Degree College, was the Chief Guest and Capt. Malkiat Singh (Retd.), Hockey Coach, was the Guest of Honour. The P.G. Department of Physical Education organized volleyball tournament, hockey match and tug of war competitions for boys and girls of the Degree College, College of Education and College of Pharmacy. A team from 'Hockey Club Dholan' had a guest match with the girls hockey team of this college with the score 3-1 in favour of the college girls team. S. Malkiat Singh, the Guest of Honour, delivered a lecture to the students of B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed. on the life and career of Major Dhyan Chand, one of India's greatest sports icon. He said that the youngsters must take inspiration form Major Dhyan Chand's commitment who used to play under moonlight to fulfill his dreams and was rightly tagged as the magician from India playing hockey in Berlin during 1936 Olympics. Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, while interacting with students encouraged them to make sports and fitness a priority. He motivated them to inculcate healthy lifestyle. He further added that hardwork and resolve can lead to several milestones. The winners and participants were honoured. The event was made successful due to the efforts of P.G. The glittering celebrations of the Teej festival at GHG Group of Colleges were inaugurated by the Chief Guest S. Maninder Singh Gill, Director for the Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience (SURR) Global Practice at World Bank Group. At this position as a Director, he is leading the Practice's engagement in inclusive & sustainable development. He was accorded a warm welcome with exuberant applause by the faculty members and the enthusiastic students. The entire college premises wore a festive look with bright and colourful decorations. The girls in traditional attire & a variety of cultural events added liveliness to the occasion. The audiences was captivated with cultural programme consisting of folk dance Giddha, Tappey and Punjabi boliyan; and were equally delighted by the traditional Punjabi dishes like tikkis, malpurhas and kheer. A variety of stalls displaying bangles, jewellery, purses, cosmetics and mehndi enhanced the festive fervour. Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, welcomed the Chief Guest and provided an insight into his glorious career. He said that the festival of Teej is not only a symbol of our cultural heritage but also such celebrations are a way of reviving and keeping the Punjabiyat alive for generations to come. S. Maninder Singh Gill, Chief Guest, expressed his pleasure in visiting this college- a miracle in rural Punjab. In his address, he vouched for institutional reforms and women empowerment as the primary forces behind sustainable development. He emphasized that to be drivers of growth one needs to identify the drivers of change with educational institutions like this college being the front-runners. He congratulated S. Manjit Singh Gill, President College Governing Council, for contributing towards sustainable development and rural upliftment through quality education. He encouraged the breakdown of gender norms in favour of women for our country to harness its complete potential. Beyond this, he focused on the role of government and the unanswered challenge of accountability paradox. Lt. Gen. I .S. Singha (Retd.), Director, put forth the essence of change as the achievement of excellence in one's own sphere of influence. He emphasized that the privilege of freedom of speech can make immense difference only if exercised with great responsibility. Mrs. Sarbarinder K. Grewal, daughter of Late S. Pratap Singh Kairon, expressed pride in the talent showcased by the young girls. Various competitions like rangoli; Pakhi-making, nala-making, poster-making, dish-making; mehendi; clay-modelling; quiz; folk songs, hair-style & nail-art, embroidery and crochet; best out of waste; related to Punjabi culture were organised. An exhibition on Punjabi culture & heritage organized by the Sciences Department was the highlight of the festival. Traditional articles like more than a century old utensils, coins, weapons, & hand written religious books; bagh, phulkari, pakhian, bangles, parandian, charkha, chhajj, chakki, peehra etc. were on display in the Exhibition to elicit knowledge to the students about the tradition rich Punjabi cultural heritage. The winners were congratulated & awarded prizes. The occasion was also graced by Dr. Satvinder Kaur, Principal College of Pharmacy, Dr. Sarabjit Kaur, Principal College of Education, S. Charanjit S. Students of GHG Khalsa College Gurusar Sadhar, Ludhiana,achieved success in the 2nd semester examination of B.Sc. conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh in May 2018. Shivani Gupta scored 90.4% marks and obtained first position in the college. The second position in the college went to Kirandeep Kaur who scored 86.5% weeks. Ritika secured third position with 80.7% marks. College toppers attributed their success to hard work and untiring effort made by their mentors S. With their exceptional performance, 5 players from this rural based College made it to the strong 572 member Indian Contingent. Anjali Bashist and Nazis Mansoori in Canoeing; Purohit Buroi in Kayaking; Takraw and Manisha Kumari in Sepak Takraw are the students keeping the 70 year old college tradition alive of contributing to National capital by churning out players of International repute. They are a force to reckon in their respective disciplines at this continental Championship which is witnessing participation by powerhouses like China, South Korea and Japan. Sr. Manjit Singh Gill, President, College Governing Council, congratulated the selected students for booking their berths in the prestigious Indian Asiad Squad. Lt. Gen. I.S. Students of Post Graduate Department of Chemistry, G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar achieved grand success and brought laurels to the college in the 4th semester examination of M.Sc conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh in May 2018. Amrit Kaur scored 1646/2000 (82.3%) marks and stood first in the College and Sixth position in the University. Pooja Jindal scored 1611/2000 (80.5%) and stood second in the college while Navneet Kaur scored 1598/2000 (79.9%) and stood third in the college. GHG Khalsa Group of Colleges celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with patriotic fervour. Lt. Gen. I. S. Singha (Retd.), Director, as a Chief Guest hoisted the National Flag with the NCC cadets belonging to 3 Pb. Girls Bn., Ludhiana, standing guard. The fervour was further enhanced with patriotic songs and speeches, reminding and instilling the nationalist values. Lt. Gen. I.S. Singha (Retd.) encouraged the youngsters to aspire and achieve. He said that India being a resource rich country is unstoppable at global level with its valued Gen Y. Dr. S. S. The G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, students of P.G. Department of Punjabi secured cent percent result in their second and fourth semester of M.A. Punjabi, results of which were declared recently by Panjab University. In the fourth semester result, Gurpreet Kaur with 71.5% secured the first position in college followed by Rajwinder Kaur with 64.8% marks and Harjot Kaur with 60.4% marks. In the second semester result, Narinder Kaur with 68% marks bagged the first position in college, Jasvir Kaur with 67.75% marks stood second and Karamjit Kaur with 66.5% marks stood third. S. The Panjab University Chandigarh recently declared the result of B. P. Ed 1st Semester examination. The students of B. P. Ed. 1st semester brought laurels to the college by clinching Six out of ten University positions. Manpreet Kaur with 86.62 marks, Harpreet Kaur with 86.12% marks, Baljeet Kaur with 86% marks, Harmandeep Kaur with 85.12% marks, Karamveer Kaur with 83.75% marks and Harpreet kaur with 82.75% marks secured first, second, third, fifth, eight and tenth position, respectively in the university. Beside excellence in academic results these students have shown outstanding performance in the field of sports as well and won medals at inter-college & inter-university level. The overall result of the college is 100 percent with all securing first division. Thirteen students of this batch scored more than 80% marks, nineteen students scored between 75% to 80% marks and thirty two students scored between 70% to 75% marks. S. The students, faculty members and other staff of the college celebrated World Environment Day by conducting a plantation drive in the college campus. A number of saplings of the plants named. Kochia, Gultagma, Balsam, Gladia, Sukhchaen, Zennia, Kalga etc. were planted in the beautiful and sprawling campus of the college. On the occasion, President, Governing Council S. Manjit Singh Gill, Director, Lt. Gen. Singha (Retd.) and Principal Dr. S.S. Deol were also present. Dr. Deol stressed upon the importance of plants in conserving the quality of environment. He also emphasized upon the fact that in present times, the deteriorating air quality due to excessive pollution necessitates the need of extensive plantation. It was further conveyed that the young generation need to be more aware in this regard and share the responsibility of protecting the environment. The college Management also congratulated the staff for this noble effort.

In the fight for freedom of India from enslavement, the role of Ghadari fighters has been prime. The dedication for freedom in these bravehearts was such that they laid their lives for the cause. These views honouring our Ghadar Movement fighters were expressed by Chief Guest, Prof. Harish Singh Puri, Professor (Retd.), Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, at the One Day National Seminar on ‘Ghadar Movement: Literature, Ideologies and History’ in collaboration with Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Chair, Punjabi University, Patiala organized by GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. The dignitaries and the resource person were welcomed by Dr. Sohan Singh, Coordinator of the Seminar. In his address at the morning session, Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, said that the exemplary lives of our freedom fighters are inspirational for the youth. The knowledge about their struggle, spirit and martyrdom is a constant reminder of the preciousness of our freedom. He also praised the mothers of these freedom fighters for raising such courageous sons of soil. On this occasion, renowned social worker S. Tehal Singh Kailey was specially honoured. The afternoon session was chaired by S. Bheeminder Singh, Coordinator Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Chair, Punjabi University, Patiala. At the Convocation ceremony held at GHG Khalsa Colleges, the Chief Guest S. Hardeep Singh Puri, Honourable Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt. of India, conferred degrees to 962 successful students. S. Harinder Singh Khalsa, Member of Parliament, was the Guest of Honour. The guests were given a Guard-of-Honour and were piloted along by the NCC Cadets. Of the 962 degrees conferred, 684 were awarded to the students of Degree College, 130 to the students of College of Pharmacy and 148 to the students of College of Education. Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, welcomed the guests and presented the annual report for the session 2017-18, providing a glimpse to the numerous achievements in the academics, sports and cultural arena of the students from the three colleges. He said that the convocation is a prime celebration in one’s life. Justice Rajive Bhalla (Retd.), Chairman Punjab Education Tribunal and Dean, Faculty of Law, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, presided over as the Chief Guest and notable educationist Mr. Vinay Pande, Headmaster, the Lawrence School, Sanawar, was the Guest of Honour. The students of 3rd semester of B. Sc. Biotechnology Hons. of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar brought laurels to the college in PU final examination conducted in Dec 2017. Sandeep Kaur secured eighth position in the university by obtaining 90% marks and stood first in the college. Amandeep Kaur was declared ninth in the university securing 89.6% marks and secured second position in the college whereas Navjot Kaur obtained 87.2 % marks and stood third in the college. The Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar College organized a One Day Seminar on the topic — “Lab Management System”. Dr Naresh Kumar Sood, Senior Veterinary Pathologist, Dept. of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, GADVASU, Ludhiana was the Chief Guest of the seminar. College Governing Council Secretary, Dr. S.S. Thind and Principal Dr. S.S. Deol, accorded him a warm welcome. In the first Technical Session, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Medical Officer, Sadhar delivered the lecture and stressed the need of “Healthy Environment and basic principles of Lab Management System”. Dr. Naresh Kumar Sood delivered technical lecture with hand on experience of different lab managements and emphasized on the proper identification of different blood cells of various species and also explain in detail about monocytes, basophil, eosinophil and neutrophils. In the third technical Session Dr. Savita Jain, MBBS, MD, Senior Pathologist from Singhania Hospital, Amritsar delivered the Lecture on the “Proper Identification of various diseases via Lab Test and stressed the need of proper lab management”. After this, Poster and model Session was organized by the students in the college ground. Dr. Naresh Kumar Sood and Registrar Dr. H.S. Brar interacted with the students of MLT during Poster Session and judge the first, second and third position among various poster/models. Beside this there are two complimentary prizes for the students. At last during Valedictory session, Registrar Dr. HS Brar made Concluded Remarks on the seminar and encourages the students to indulge in seminar related activities.
One day seminar was conducted by Department of Food Processing & Quality Management of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, on ‘Challenges in Food Safety and Food Processing Sector’.Eminent speakers were invited for the event. Dr. Poonam Sachdeva, HOD, Department of Food Science & Technology, PAU, Ludhiana, highlighted the status of Food Processing Industry in India and various challenges which our food industry is facing. She laid emphasis on various technologies which an being developed in Punjab Agricultural University and are being commercially implemented by various concerns. Dr. Kanwaljit Singh Sandhu, HOD, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, overviewed the importance of resistant starches in human health. Dr. Birinderjit Singh, Professor, Punjab Technical University, was the last key note speaker of the day. He talked about Quality Management System in Food Industry. He discussed the food hazards and their preventive measures along with the various laws and regulations governing the commercial food products. Dr. S.S. Thind, Secretary, College Governing Council, commended the efforts of the Department and emphasized the importance of such events in providing exposure to students. Lt. Gen. (Retd.) I.S. The zoology department of G.H.G. Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar arranged a visit to apiary at P.A.U. Ludhiana for B.Sc. 6th semester students to get practical training in beekeeping. Dr. Jaspal Singh, Senior Entomologist, P.A.U. Ludhiana, demonstrated different species of honey bees, social life of honey bee, diseases of bees, equipment used for beekeeping, processing of honey, its sterilization and storage. He also gave in-depth knowledge of various training programmes being organized by P.A.U. for beekeeping and motivated the students to adopt apiary as profession after graduation.
The Department of Chemistry of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar College organised an extension lecture on the topic "Boranes and Cycloaddition Reactions". Dr Varinder Kaur Chahal, Asst. Professor, Panjab University, Chandigarh delivered the lecture on the Topic “Boranes”. Principal Dr. S.S. Deol, accorded her a warm welcome. Dr Chahal shed light on the classification and applications of Boranes Chemistry. Second Lecture was delivered by Dr. Raghubir Singh on the topic “Cycloaddition Reactions” from DAV College sector 10, Chandigarh. Dr. Singh fascinated the students with different types and applications of various Cycloaddition reactions. The students taken keen interest in the lecture and queried their doubts. In the end College Principal Dr. S.S. Deol thanked the speaker for visiting and enlightening the students.
A Quiz competition and an extension lecture was organized by C.V, Raman society of Physics Department of G.H.G Khalsa College Gurusar Sadhar. Students of B.Sc. Classes participated in the physics quiz with great enthusiasm. Team ‘B’ won first prize and team ‘C’ got second position respectively. After that Dr. Parmjit Singh Tarsikka renowned prof in solid state physics from P.A.U. delivered a lecture on basics of solid state physics to students. A condolence meeting was held at the demise of great theoretical physicist Sir Stephen Hawkings . Principal Dr. Swaranjit Singh Deol, Chief Guest Dr. Parmjit Singh Tarsikka , H.O.D. prof. Inderjit Singh and Prof. Major Singh distributed prizes to winner teams. Principal Dr. Swaranjit Singh Deol motivated students to participate in such activities in his address.
More than forty students of B.Sc. (Medical) 3rd year accompanied by Mrs. Harpreet Khurana visited Harisar industrial corporation on 14th March 2018. It is one of the biggest woods seasoning plant in the city. During the visit, various department Heads of Harisar Industries intracted with the students & explained the different methods of wood seasoning including kiln seasoning & steam seasoning. The students saw the process of wood seasoning & interacted with technical experts to learn about actual work atmosphere & various other activities of the industry. Er. Inderjit Singh Sohal, Director, H.I.C. Emphasized, that industrial visit is a practical method of teaching students as it helps them to know the process & employment practices. It also gives them exposure to the actual working conditions of the industry.
The P.G. Department of Commerce and Management of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, organized a Management Quiz and Presentation Competition for the students of BBA, B.Com. and M.Com. under the guidance of Prof. Jaswant Singh, HOD. Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, as the Guest of Honour for the event appreciated the efforts of the department for providing opportunities to the students for developing their analytical, communication and presentation skills. He emphasized that apart from theoretical knowledge, it is the exposure and the communication skills of the students that make them market ready. In the quiz competition, the four teams comprising of 4 students each, shortlisted after a preliminary round, competed against each other. The competition consisted of 4 rounds in which the students were tested on subject knowledge, business knowledge and logo recognition, identification of business personalities and a rapid fire round in the end. The competition was judged by Prof. Balwinderpal Singh, Ms. Anubhuti Moudgil and Ms. Namrita Singh Ahluwalia. The winner was the team of Harman, Jasmine, Karan and Raymond. The quiz competition was followed by a presentation competition in which 14 presentations were presented by the M.Com. students on the topics ranging from GST, Business Scams to Brain Drain. The prizes were won by the teams of Harpreet and Sandeep (first); Rawinder and Harwinder (second); and Prabhjot and Parveen (third). The prize winners were felicitated by Dr. Balwinderpal Singh, Prof. Jaswant Singh and the faculty members of the department.
The Department of education of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, organized an extension lecture on ‘Life Skills Education’ Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Principal, Bhai Gurdas Institute of Education, was the key note speaker on the importance of different life skills like creative thinking, critical thinking, problem solving, empathy, interpersonal relationship, effective communication etc. and their impactful implementation in daily life for the achievement of success. Dr. Kiran Walia, Head, Department of Education, highlighted the aim of the lecture being equipping of students with essential life skills to help them detail with personal as well as other life challenges. Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, appreciated the efforts of department for successful conduct of a lecture that imparted valuable life skills to students. G.H.G. Khalsa Colleges, Gurusar Sadhar, paid homage to Late Sardar Bakhtawar Singh Gill, Former President,College Governing Council. The programme began after the Bhog of Akhand Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, followed by the Ardaas and the recitation of the College Shabad 'Deh Siva Var Mohe Ehe'. The function was organized and celebrated collectively with religious fervor by all the institutions working under the Management-G.H.G. Khaksa Degree College, College of Education and College of Pharmacy.In order to commemorate the Late President, 'Sardar Bakhtawar Singh Gill Memorial Inter College Gurbani Gayan Competition' was held in Nihang Shamsher Singh Hall. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Dr. Harpal Singh Pannu, Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala, who inspired the students to keep faith in God and motivated them to work hard in order to achieve their goals.With the help of expert doctors from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana a Free Medical Check-up Camp and Blood-Donation Camp were also organized in the deepest and fond memory of S. Bakhtawar Singh Gill. The Camps were inaugurated by Sardarni Mohinder Kaur Gill, President S. Manjit Singh Gill and Sh. Amrit Nagpal, Vice-President, Daynand Medical College, Ludhiana.Throwing a light on Gurbani Gayan Competition and the Camps, Dr.Swaranjeet Singh Deol, Principal, Degree College told that various teams from different colleges participated in this event with great enthusiasm. 104 students donated blood voluntarily and nearly 395 patients underwent medical check-up by a team of expert Orthopaedics, Dermatologists, Gynaecologists and many other specialist doctors from DMCH, Ludhiana. The Camps attracted a number of local residents, the students and the teachers. The patients were given medicines free of cost. An Exhibition of Books was also organized by the Sukrit Trust and the Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, Ludhiana.Another major attraction was the 'Dastarbandi Competition' which was possible with special contribution by S. Sohnpreet Singh Jwandha, seeing a display of impeccable turban skills by 30 students. In the Gurbani Gayan Competition,Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana team stood first, Mata Ganga College, Kotta stood second and GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar stood third. In the Individual Category, Mehak of Ramgarhia Girls College, Rosy of Mata Ganga College, Kotta and Gyan Kaur, GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar got first, second and third prize, respectively.The panel of Judges who gave judgement on the occasion included S. Gobinder Singh Alampuri, Smt. Sukhwinder Kaur and Ms.Gurpreet Kaur. Prof. Balwinderpal Singh shared that Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, NSS and NCC Unitsof the college made special contribution towards making the event successful.The dignitaries felicitated and honoured the winners with trophies and cash prizes.Also present on the occasion were a Dr. Satwinder Kaur, Principal College of Pharmacy, S.
